List of Presidential Candidates (2008)

Two independent candidates submitted their credentials to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and collected two million signatures in support of their nomination. One of them, former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov, was rejected as having in excess of five percent invalid signatures, and the other, Democratic Party leader, Andrei Bogdanov, successfully registered for a place on the ballot. Four Duma parties could nominate candidates automatically, but only three did so--the Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and United Russia. Fair Russia associated itself with United Russia's candidate.
